Doberman Pedigree ResearchThe purpose of this database is to provide online access to a Doberman registry/pedigree that aims to further gather and provide information that may help researchers in understand more about genetic health issues effecting our beloved Dobermans.
Cardiomyopathy (DCM) and certain Cancers will be of high concern. There is no genetic test for DCM, however some cardio testing (echo/holter) is available for early detection. Those test in combination with a reliable database can help in improving the breed. It very important not to only see the direct lines, but to learn on the siblings of those does in the generations. The more information available, the higher chance some patterns may start to emerge. There are so many people involved, those who choose to stay with this outstanding breed should not have to face so much heartache. Something needs to be done before Dobermans health concerns get worse!
Registries such as here, provide quality data to help researchers look for patterns and evaluate issues such as the mode of inheritance. We provide large data samples to help with questions that may come up. For example, with the new DCM Gene test, if one parent is affected and bred to a non-affected parent, how may pups were affected? We aim to track these to help bring patterns to the surface. We need your help in reporting and helping us gather as much information as possible. The larger sample size we are able to provide, the better chance established patterns have to arise and to aid in further research and understanding.
